Ice-ocean interactions, NW Greenland

The objective of this NASA-funded project is to understand the physical controls on mass balance of marine-terminating outlet glaciers in central western Greenland. We examine ice-ocean processes that control outlet glacier mass balance along the central west coast of the Greenland Ice Sheet where ~14 outlet glaciers exist. While initial studies have served to characterize the rates and magnitudes of glacier changes in this region, several questions remain. In particular, how are forcing mechanisms, both atmospheric and oceanic, partitioned in central west Greenland and what properties influence the impact of each particular forcing mechanism?
